This report examines how the two global mega-trends of population ageing and rising inequalities have been developing and interacting, both within and across generations. Taking a life-course perspective the report shows how inequalities in education, health, employment and earnings compound, resulting in large differences in lifetime earnings across different groups. It suggests a policy agenda to prevent, mitigate and cope with inequalities along the life course drawing on good practices in OECD countries and emerging economies.
This Horizon prize for social innovation (€2 million) will reward the best solutions for improving the travel mobility of older people. The purpose of the contest is to develop innovative and sustainable mobility solutions for older people (65+). The prize(s) will be awarded, after closure of the contest, to the applicant(s) who in the opinion of the jury demonstrate(s) a solution that best addresses the award criteria. The solutions submitted – likely to combine technological, social and behavioural features – must be implemented for several months during the contest period.
The workshop “An Alternative for the future: Silver Economy for cities and regions” has been a huge success. As an event within the framework of the European Week of Regions and Cities 2017 in Brussels, the workshop on October 10 has attracted around 250 representatives from local and regional authorities, business and service providers, academia and civil society to hear about the social and economic benefits that lay in the European Silver Economy.
